(In)finity
As we age, our perception of infinity evolves, shifting from the innocent wonder of a child gazing at the stars to the profound philosophical inquiries of adulthood. Yet, the question remains: What is infinity, truly? Kika Sprangers wholeheartedly expresses this through vulnerability and strength – a vision that manifests musically in a passion for unorthodox arrangements, captivating tension arcs from symphonic whirlwinds to poignant silences – jazz poetry that draws you in. The fluidity in this live recorded performance mirrors the essence of infinity itself – an overwhelming concept that can evoke both feelings of freedom and fear.
Kika Sprangers’ compositions with the Large Ensemble are built upon the essence of this intimate style. The result is an intriguing blend of vocals, saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, trumpet, and horn, which, despite its grandeur, offers the musicians the freedom to fully immerse themselves in their improvisations. As with her debut album, “(In)finity” will be enhanced by a visual component. A light installation designed by Sander Hagelaar will interact with the ensemble’s music, creating a symbiotic interplay between music and light that expresses themes such as transience and the human perception of time.
