The compositions are based on 8 human characters. “If you have the nerve to look someone straight in the eye, you can get to know them. Straightaway. It’s as though you are looking into their soul. That’s at the heart of this album”, says Kika.
These 8 personas have been transformed into music in a process that is backed up visually by a series of portraits from Karen van Gilst. “Together, we explored the connections between our art forms. Through the combination of her incisive portraits and my music, the listener is introduced to the characters. This is a vision that, for us, should take centre stage in a society where social empathy is often hard to find and where anonymity reigns.”
